Mark Stover: Finally a player who knows how
to teach! Mark (Smokey) Stover has designed a program that will enable
students who will practice 15 minutes a day, to leap light-years ahead
in their playing ability.
Smokey has been playing since 1971, and teaching
students since 1980.
Mostly self-taught, he went however, to San Antonio’s Musician’s
school in 1980, a program similar to GIT/ Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
Smokey began Playing in High School, and his first paying Gig was at Bergstrum
Air Force base in Austin Texas. He went on to Mississippi where he played
with Monte Lott of The Lott Brothers as he learned the down-home blues
style he is known for. He’s played with bands through out the Texas
w/ Snapshot band, Louisiana w/Lynx band, Mississippi w/ Oasis, Florida,
and California. “I love all types of guitar and play a variety of
styles from Blues to Jazz to Country. I’ll get you playing by the
first lesson!”
Here in California his band “Vizion”, hosted a benefit concert
at Tehachapi Prison which had the Beach Boys the month prior. The prison
program included noteables like Oak Ridge Boys and Johnny Cash. Having
relocated to Southern Calif in 2000, he began playing with local bands
including Hwy 111; Freeflyte; Retro; Checkmate; and has played at the
Rt 66 events for several years running. He played live on KFROG as a benefit
for the local Firemen victims of 911.
(Smokey Stover was a Sunday-paper Cartoon character from the 30’s.
Many people have been given this nic-name, look it up on the web! -- even
a WW2 B52 bomber!)
Currently working, playing casuals, recording, and teaching, he is planning
a book about blues styles.
